All praises are for Allah, the free of need, the most generous. Who increases the reward of those who spend for His sake, and enters them into the Gardens of Everlasting Bliss. And that is the greatest of achievement. I testify that there is nothing worthy of worship except Allah, the Uniquely One, who has no partners. And I testify that our Sayyid and Prophet Muhammad is the slave of Allah and His Messenger. O Allah send Your peace and blessings upon our Sayyid, our Messenger, Muhammad. And upon his family and companions, all of them. And upon whomever follows their way of guidance till the Last Day.
To continue: I advise you slaves of Allah and myself with the enjoining of Taqwa.
Alif, Lam, Meem. This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah. Who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them. [Qur'an:2-3]
O Muslims: It is narrated by Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) who said: "A great caravan arrived unto Uthman ibn Affan, and the traders gathered at his door. So he came out to them, going to a group of people, and he said to them: "What do you want?" They said: It has reached us that you have some food. So please sell it to us so we can distribute it amongst the people. Then Uthman said: "Out of love and nobility, please come in and buy what you wish." So the traders entered seeking to buy food in the abode of Uthman and the traders said: "We will give you a profit of five dirhams for every ten". At which point Uthman said: "I have been given more [profit]". So the traders said: "O Abu Amr, there does not remain in Madina traders other than us, so who is it that gave you more?" To this, Uthman responded by saying: "Allah gave me more, as for every dirham He gives me ten. Can you give me more than that?" The traders said: "No". So Uthman said: "Indeed I testify to Allah that I have made this food a form of charity [giving it away for free]." So he gave away the food to the entire caravan doing this purely for his Lord, and as a means of generosity and making things easier for His servants.
O Muslims: Indeed this is the manner of giving purely for Allah is from the most lofty forms of worship. It is from that which our Lord has ordered us to do in His blessed Book, and has joined such acts with true faith in Him.
Believe in Allah and His Messenger and spend out of that in which He has made you successors. For those who have believed among you and spent, there will be a great reward.
How can there not be a reward? When He has promised those who give for His sake that He will bless them with His grace and gifts, honor them with His nobility and generosity, compensating them in turn of what they give. Giving them in turn, and compensating them for their sacrifice for Him.
But whatever thing you spend [in His cause] - He will compensate it; and He is the best of providers.
Indeed the Prophet himself was from the most generous of people. Constantly giving in the spirit of goodness. For when he was asked which charity is the best, he responded by saying:
أَنْ تَصَدَّقَ وَأَنْتَ صَحِيحٌ حَرِيصٌ، تَأْمُلُ الْغِنَى وَتَخْشَى الْفَقْرَ
(The best sadaqah is) That you give something as sadaqah (charity) when you are healthy, avid, expect to live long and fear poverty [and not that you postpone it until your death when you do not expect this].
O slaves of Allah: Giving in the spirit of generosity, is commensurate to the degree of what is facilitated by one's own striving.
As Allah says: Let a man of wealth spend from his wealth and he whose provision is restricted - let him spend from what Allah has given him.
O You who give in charity: Our Lord has elucidated for us the ranks of recipients worthy of charitable giving, prioritizing those closest in kinship. Allah Most High says:
يَسْأَلُونَكَ مَاذَا يُنْفِقُونَ قُلْ مَا أَنْفَقْتُمْ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَلِلْوَالِدَيْنِ وَالْأَقْرَبِينَ وَالْيَتَامَى وَالْمَسَاكِينِ وَابْنِ السَّبِيلِ وَمَا تَفْعَلُوا مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ بِهِ عَلِيمٌ
They ask you as to what they should spend. Say: "Whatever good you spend should be for parents, kindred, orphans, the needy and the wayfarers; and whatever good you do, Allah is all-aware of it."
Thus, the people most entitled to charitable giving are parents, next of kin whom you are supporting and whose financial maintenance is obligatory on you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
«الْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى، وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ»
The upper hand is better than the lower hand, and start with those whom you are responsible for.
Hence, the husband spending on his wife and children is spending for a good cause, and is greater and more superior in reward. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
«أَفْضَلُ دِينَارٍ يُنْفِقُهُ الرَّجُلُ؛ دِينَارٌ يُنْفِقُهُ عَلَى عِيَالِهِ»
The best Dinar that a man can spend is a Dinar that he spends on his family ...
The wife earns two rewards for what she contributes as regards supporting and maintaining the household, for Zaynab, the wife of 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with both them), once said to Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him): "Ask the Prophet - peace and blessings be upon him: "Can I spend my charity on my husband and on my brother's children who are orphans?" So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon said:
نَعَمْ، لَهَا أَجْرَانِ، أَجْرُ الْقَرَابَةِ وَأَجْرُ الصَّدَقَةِ
Yes, she will have two rewards: a reward for (maintaining) kinship and reward for charity.
Ibn al-Mubarak said: "There is nothing that equals earning a livelihood and supporting and spending on one's family". Part of supporting and spending on one's children is teaching them and looking after their affairs.
Also, amongst the forms of spending in a good cause, is spending on the needy, the orphans and the poor around the world, for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) urged Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him) to forego of a date palm tree for an orphan who desired it and cried for it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
أَعْطِهِ إِيَّاهَا، وَلَكَ عَذْقٌ فِي الْجَنَّةِ
Give it to him, and yours will be a date palm in Paradise.
Abu al-Dahdah heard that and said to Abu Lubabah: "Do you want to sell that date palm of yours for this garden of mine". So he said: "Yes". Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came, and said: "The date palm that you asked for the orphan, if I give it to him, will I have in place of it a date palm in Paradise?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: نَعَمْ Yes
So, he gave it to the orphan. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) then said:
«كَمْ مِنْ عِذْقٍ مُعَلَّقٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ لِأَبِي الدَّحْدَاحِ»
How many are the bunches (of dates) that are hanging down in Paradise that belong to Abu Dahdah!
So Abu al-Dahdah went to his wife, and said: "Umm al-Dahdah, come out of the garden, for I have sold it for a date palm in Paradise". She said: "It was a profitable sale". He said: "By Allah, indeed, it was a profitable sale, for anything in Paradise is better than the entire world and everything in it.
Look, O Servants of Allah, at this man! He gave a date palm to an orphan, and gained thereby a huge reward in the Gardens of Everlasting Bliss. What a triumph for the one who spends on his mother, his father, his wife, his children, his blood relatives and next of kin and brings joy to widows, the needy, the orphans, the poor and destitute and who spends in all good and charitable causes and righteous avenues.
O Allah, make us of those who spend in good and charitable causes, and bestow upon us from Your Blessings and Benediction, O Most Generous One. And bless us all with your devotion, and devotion towards your Messenger Muhammad. And piety towards those You have ordered us to show piety towards in Your manifest Book, When You said: يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ وَأُولِي الْأَمْرِ مِنْكُمْ
O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you.
I say this and seek His forgiveness for me and for You.
All praises are for Allah, Lord of all the Worlds. To Him is all praise, and beautiful acclaim. I bear witness that there is nothing worthy of worship except Allah, the Uniquely One, having no competing partner in that One-ness. I bear witness that our Sayyid, Muhammad, is the perfect embodiment of servanthood towards Allah and is His Messenger. O Allah: We ask you to bestow Your peace and blessings upon our Prophet, Sayyiduna Muhammad and upon his family and all of his companions. And whomsoever follows them and seeks to emulate them in the best of ways till the Last Day. I counsel you, O servants of Allah, and myself, to adhere to the taqwa of Allah (glorified be He).
O you who believe: Anything spent in a good cause wherewith a Muslim seeks the Countenance of Allah, then Allah Almighty will record and register for him the reward thereof. Allah Most High says:
وَمَا تُنْفِقُوا مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَلِأَنْفُسِكُمْ وَمَا تُنفِقُونَ إِلاَّ ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ اللَّهِ
Whatever of good ye give benefits your own souls, and ye shall only do so seeking the Countenance (and Pleasure) of Allah.
Truly, a person whom Allah has given ample and abundant provision and blessed him in his livelihood, it befits him to spend in good causes from that which Allah Most High has provided him, as a way of thanking his Creator and seeking the ongoing bestowal of His Blessings and Bounties. Shaykh Zayed (may Allah rest his soul in peace) was an exemplary model worthy of emulation when it came to giving, spending, generosity and magnanimity. His helping and generous hand would extend to all corners of the earth, to aid and provide relief to the poor and needy, the weak and down-trodden. You, O Servants of Allah, Allah Almighty has accustomed you to Him bestowing upon you from His Generosity and shower upon you from His Bounty, and the needy from amongst the poor and destitute of this world in which we live have become accustomed to you bringing joy and happiness to their hearts, extending them helping hands and alleviating their poverty. So be to them, as you have made them accustomed, then Allah will be to you, as He has made you accustomed. Think and reflect! How many a sick person and does not find medicine wherewith to relief his pain! How many a poor person and does not find the food which to feed his children! How many a mother is there who is unable find the bare minimum with which to eke out a living or with which to satisfy her suckling child! How many a child who is tossing and turning in the cold and does not find the means wherewith to warm himself! All of this while Allah has bestowed generously upon you and while He is observing your deeds, looking at your charitable giving and being well aware of your benevolence.
Whatsoever you spend, Allah is fully aware of it.
So let us hasten to spend in good and charitable causes, participate in initiatives and cooperate official charitable and welfare organizations like the Red Crescent out of obedience to our Lord, out of veneration for the value and worth of charitable giving and spending in our lives and as a way of establishing a culture of giving and spending in our midst, and teach that to our sons and daughters.
And with this, let us send our peace and blessings upon the seal of the Prophets and Messengers as we have been commanded to by the Lord of all the Worlds for He states in His manifest Book: إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا
Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace.
O Allah, bestow Your peace, blessings and grace upon our Master Muhammad r and upon his family and all of his companions. And be pleased with the Righteous Caliphs: Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali. And with all the companions O Allah, grant success to the UAE President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and guide him to all that is good.
And grant success to the Vice-President, the Crown Prince and his Brothers, their Highnesses, the Rulers of the Emirates. Bestow your mercy on the late Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Maktoum, late UAE Sheikhs who have passed on to the mercy of their Lord. O Lord, grant them from your abundant mercy and bless them with Your kindness entry unto Your Paradise.
O Allah, we ask you for forgiveness and reward, for whoever built this Masjid and their children. And for everyone who worked deeds of righteousness therein. And forgive whoever built for You a Masjid, in which Your name is mentioned. Or anyone who has pledged for you an endowment, which brings perpetual benefit to the sick, orphans, to students and the destitute. Guard such people in their wealth and family, and bless them in their providence. And enter them into Paradise through Your mercy. O most Merciful.
O Allah, continue blessing the UAE with Your blessings, Your grace and Your bounties. And bless it in its goodness and its people. And make it always a place of true happiness. Ever increasing in goodness. O Allah, have mercy on the righteous martyrs and coalition forces, and admit them into Paradise with your elect. And bless their families with the reward for those who are patient, for You are the most gracious of the gracious. O Allah: Aid the Arab coalition forces. And spread peace and stability in the lands of the Muslims, and the entire world.
O Allah, bless us with Your blessings of the Heavens and make us not from those who are ungrateful. O Allah, bless us with an encompassing, surrounding blessing, giving us both the blessings of the Heavens, and making us firm with the blessings of the earth. O our Lord, we ask You for the best of this World, the best of the Hereafter, that You will protect us from the punishment of the Fire. That You enter us into Your paradise with the righteous. Indeed You are the Most Generous and Most Forgiving.
O Servants of Allah: Remember Allah, the Majestic, and He will remember you. Thank Him for His blessings and He will increase you therein.
So stand up for prayer.
