The First Khutbah
All praises are due to Allah, possessor of majesty, honour, magnificence and perfection. And I bear witness, with every facet of my being, that there is nothing worthy of absolute love and adoration, except Allah, the Uniquely One, having no competing second in that One-ness. And I bear witness that our Leader and Master, our Prophet, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), is the perfect example of servanthood unto Allah, and is His sent Messenger unto the entirety of the created universe.
To Continue: I advise you, dutiful servants of Allah, and myself, to adhere to a heartfelt consciousness (Taqwa) of Allah. For He, the Most Gloriously Transcendent, states: يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اعْبُدُوا رَبَّكُمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ
O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous - [Qur'an:2:21]
O Worshippers:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have said: Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said: O My servants! I have forbidden dhulm (oppression) for Myself, and I have made it forbidden amongst you, so do not oppress one another. O My servants, all of you are astray except those whom I have guided, so seek guidance from Me and I shall guide you. O My servants, all of you are hungry except those whom I have fed, so seek food from Me and I shall feed you. O My servants, all of you are naked except those whom I have clothed, so seek clothing from Me and I shall clothe you. O My servants, you commit sins by day and by night, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness from Me and I shall forgive you. O My servants, you will not attain harming Me so as to harm Me, and you will not attain benefiting Me so as to benefit Me. O My servants, if the first of you and the last of you, and the humans of you and the jinn of you, were all as pious as the most pious heart of any individual amongst you, then this would not increase My Kingdom an iota. O My servants, if the first of you and the last of you, and the humans of you and the jinn of you, were all as wicked as the most wicked heart of any individual amongst you, then this would not decrease My Kingdom an iota. O My servants, if the first of you and the last of you, and the humans of you and the jinn of you, were all to stand together in one place and ask of Me, and I were to give everyone what he requested, then that would not decrease what I possess, except [even less than] what is decreased of the ocean when a needle is dipped into it. O My servants, it is but your deeds that I account for you, and then recompense you for. So he who finds good, let him praise Allah, and he who finds other than that, let him blame no one but himself. [Muslim]
Servants of Allah:
Indeed there is in this hadith so much beauty and majesty, that it made one of the tabi'een, from the generation after the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to fall upon his knees. This was out of his reverence for Allah and in obedience to His call and summons, for Allah mentions in this hadith a tremendous directive, urging mankind to justice among themselves, and to achieve equity in their interactions. For Allah informs us that He has denied injustice to Himself, stating: إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَظْلِمُ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ
Indeed, Allah does not do injustice, [even] as much as an atom's weight [Qur'an: 4:40]
He also says:
And your Lord is not ever unjust to [His] servants. [Qur'an: 41:46]
Hence Allah has forbidden injustice for His servants, prohibiting them from oppressing each other, ensuring that the rights of people are preserved. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have said: اتَّقُوا الظُّلْمَ؛ فَإِنَّ الظُّلْمَ ظُلُمَاتٌ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
Beware of injustice, for oppression will be darkness on the Day of Resurrection [Bukhari and Muslim]
In other words, oppression will bring about darkness for its perpetrator, on a Day when the light of the believers will be outspread in-front of them and on their rights. So let us examine ourselves and ensure we do not oppress anyone, that our relationships be based on common affection and love, and mutual trust be the foundation in all of our interactions.
Servants of Allah:
Indeed our Lord has commanded us to ask Him for guidance, for that is from His mercy and He is the one who guides, as He says: مَنْ يَهْدِ اللَّهُ فَهُوَ الْمُهْتَدِ
He whom Allah guides is the [rightly] guided [Qur'an: 18:17]
So each person should strive to ensure they take the path of guidance, such that they become guided by Allah: وَالَّذِينَ اهْتَدَوْا زَادَهُمْ هُدًى وَآتَاهُمْ تَقْوَاهُمْ
And those who are guided - He increases them in guidance and gives them their righteousness. [Qur'an: 47:17]
So whoever sincerely seeks guidance will find that Allah accepts them therein, making them firm in it, and increases in that. We call upon Allah in every unit of prayer saying: اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ
Guide us to the straight path - [Qur'an: 1:6]
So whoever finds themselves as having been guided should thank Allah for this, as this is what the people of Paradise do, as Allah informs us: وَقَالُوا الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي هَدَانَا لِهَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لِنَهْتَدِيَ لَوْلَا أَنْ هَدَانَا اللَّهُ
Praise to Allah , who has guided us to this; and we would never have been guided if Allah had not guided us. [Qur'an: 7:43]
Servants of Allah:
Indeed Allah is the One who provides, possessor of overpowering Force, who says: وَمَا مِنْ دَابَّةٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ إِلَّا عَلَى اللَّهِ رِزْقُهَا
And there is no creature on earth but that upon Allah is its provision [Qur'an: 11:6]
He is the one who encourages His servant that they ask Him for provision from food and drink, and other than that. As Allah has revealed upon the tongue of the Prophet Ibrahim (peace and blessings be upon him): فَابْتَغُوا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ الرِّزْقَ وَاعْبُدُوهُ وَاشْكُرُوا لَهُ إِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ
So seek from Allah provision and worship Him and be grateful to Him. To Him you will be returned. [Qur'an: 29:17]
Allah mentions him saying: وَالَّذِي هُوَ يُطْعِمُنِي وَيَسْقِينِ
And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. [Qur'an: 26:79]
Likewise from the supplications of the Prophet there is: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ رِزْقًا طَيِّبًا
O Allah, I ask you for wholesome provision [Ibn Majah]
So whilst it is Allah who feeds and gives us to drink, who blesses us with all things and shelters us, it is upon us to still take the means. Hence, our trusting upon Allah is from one's certainty whilst taking the means is from Prophetic guidance and both go hand-in-hand, may Allah's peace be on all the Prophets.
In this Hadith Allah also calls upon His servants who commit mistakes in the day and the night, calling them towards repentance and seeking His forgiveness. He gives them the glad tidings that He forgives all sins entirely, lest anyone despair of the mercy of Allah when seeing the enormity of their sins, for Allah says: قُلْ يَا عِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا مِنْ رَحْمَةِ اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ
Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah . Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful." [Qur'an: 39:53]
The name Ghafur (All-Forgiving) is from the beautiful Names of Allah, about which Allah informs our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): نَبِّئْ عِبَادِي أَنِّي أَنَا الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ
[O Muhammad], inform My servants that it is I who am the Forgiving, the Merciful. [Qur'an: 15:49]
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Allah the Almighty has said: 'O Son of Adam, as long as you invoke Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O Son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and you then asked forgiveness from Me, I would forgive you. O Son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the Earth, and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great as it [too].' [Al-Tirmidhi]
So O Allah make us of those who act on your command, those who answer your call. And may He assist us all in the way of piety and obedience. Piety towards Your trustworthy Messenger, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), the ability to be dutiful towards those You have commanded us to be dutiful towards, in accordance with Your words: O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. [Qur'an: 4:59]
May Allah bless me and bless you with the Noble Qur'an and with the Way (Sunnah) of His Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I say this, and I seek forgiveness for me and for you, so seek His forgiveness, for He is the All-Forgiving and the All-Merciful.
The Second Khutbah
All praises are for Allah, the most-Majestic, most-Noble, most-Generous, and most-Merciful. And I bear witness, with every facet of my being, that there is nothing worthy of absolute love and adoration, except Allah, the Uniquely One, having no competing second in that One-ness. And I bear witness that our Leader and Master, our Prophet, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon his name), is the perfect example of dutiful servanthood towards Allah, and is His sent Messenger unto the entirety of the created universe. O Allah: We ask you to bestow Your peace, blessings and grace upon him; his family; all of his companions; and whomsoever follows and seeks to emulate him in the best of ways till the Last Day. I advise you, O servants of Allah, and myself, with Taqwa of Allah (glorified be He).
O Worshippers:
Indeed Allah has called upon His servants with a call that is noble, beautiful, gentle and full of concern and care. For Allah says in the Hadith Qudsi:
O My servants, if the first of you and the last of you, and the humans of you and the jinn of you, were all to stand together in one place and ask of Me, and I were to give everyone what he requested, then that would not decrease what I Possess, except what is decreased of the ocean when a needle is dipped into it. [Muslim]
In this is an encouragement for creation to ask Allah from the vastness of His grace, the greatness of what is with Him, for His depositories(stores) are never depleted.
And there is not a thing but that with Us are its depositories [Qur'an:15:21]
And Allah says:
And to Allah belongs the depositories of the heavens and the earth [Qur'an: 63:7]
After Allah encouraged His slaves through His nobility, He reminds them of His justice. So that they can strive in their worship, and Allah calls them in a Hadith Qudsi stating: يَا عِبَادِي إِنَّمَا هِيَ أَعْمَالُكُمْ أُحْصِيهَا لَكُمْ
O My servants, it is but your deeds that I account for you [Muslim]
As Allah says in His noble book: فَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًا يَرَهُ* وَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرًّا يَرَهُ
So whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it, And whoever does an atom's weight of evil will see it. [Qur'an: 99:7-8]
And with this, let us send our peace and blessings upon the one we have been commanded to send our peace and blessings upon, as Allah says: Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [ Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [ Allah to grant him] peace. [Qur'an: 33:56]. So, O Allah, bestow Your peace, blessings and grace upon our Master, our Prophet and upon his family and all of his companions. And may Allah be pleased with the Righteous Caliphs: Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali; and the noble companions of the Prophet, the Sahaba, may Allah be pleased with all of them. O Allah, we ask You for soundness in our faith, and trust in good character, and a true success that will be followed by eternal bliss. O Allah, we ask You for Your mercy, for true prosperity, for Your redemptive forgiveness and Your pleasure. O Allah, make us from those who are obedient, respectful, those who venerate their parents, honoring their mothers and their fathers, embodying excellent character towards their families and wider societies.
O Allah, grant success to the UAE President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and guide him to all that is good. O Allah, we seek Your favour in granting him continued good health and care. O Allah, we also ask You to grant success to the Vice-President, the Crown Prince and his Brothers, their Highnesses, the Rulers of the Emirates.
O Allah, we ask You to forgive all of the Muslims, both the men and women, the living and dead. O Allah, bestow your mercy on the late Sheikh Zayed, Sheikh Maktoum and the other late UAE Sheikhs who have passed on to the mercy of their Lord. O Lord, grant them from your abundant mercy and bless them with Your kindness and satisfaction. O Allah, we ask you to admit them into Paradise, being given bounties therein without being taken to account. O Lord, forgive and show mercy on our parents, relatives and whosoever may have a right upon us.
O Allah, we ask You, from your loving kindness, for the immensity of your forgiveness, for the reward of all righteousness, for the safety and protection from all sin. O Allah, we ask you for the ultimate success in attaining Paradise, and the ultimate respite in being saved from the Fire. O Allah, do not allow us to sin except that You forgive us, nor to have any worry except that you relieve us therein, nor for any debt to come upon us except that You see it compensated, nor for there to be any sick amongst us except that You see them healed. Let there be no dead, except that You have covered them in Your mercy, and let there be no pressing need, amongst any of us, except that You see it met and fulfilled. O most Noble of the Noble, You are capable over all things, and You are the most generous in responding to those who call upon You.
We ask You, O Allah, the Lord of all domains, to continue blessing the UAE with stability, welfare, increase in its bounties, knowledge, civilization, happiness, beauty and tolerance. O Allah, please continue blessing it with safety and security. O Allah, have mercy on the honorable martyrs of our nation and gather them with the ones upon whom Allah has bestowed favour of the Prophets. O Allah, make the dwelling of the martyrs, their families, parents and relatives with the righteous. Indeed, You are ever-responsive to those who call upon You. O Allah, grant to the people of Yemen that which is good, and unite them upon that which is True and Sacred, and provide for them all manners of prosperity, O most Noble of the Noble.
O Allah, spread peace and security amongst all the Muslim nations, and the entirety of the world. O our Lord, we ask You for the best of this World, the best of the Hereafter, that You will protect us from the punishment of the Fire, and that You enter us into Your paradise with the righteous. Indeed You are the Most Generous and Most Forgiving.
O Servants of Allah: Remember Allah, the Majestic, and He will remember you. Thank Him for His blessings and He will increase you therein. And establish the prayer.
So stand up for prayer.
